Created during weeks of relentless rain and gale-force arctic winds in Nusfjord, Lofoten, when outdoor plein air painting was pushed inside. Retreating indoors, I discovered a massive, intricately preserved piece of dried seaweed hanging in the attic of the historic house where I was staying.
This striking contemporary still life pairs the sculptural, architectural complexity of the natural kelp specimen against a high-contrast graphic background, creating a captivating dance of light and cast shadows across the canvas.
